Many times, I just sketch different views of something--with a place in mind. This one was the rowboats at the entrance to Worlds' End in Hingham. Then I piece them all together, moving them around until they feel believable in perspective, and the composition is simple enough to make an strong color study.
Preliminary drawing for first "EVE" painting
This piece is a continuation of my "Man and the Moon" series. I draw in the basic shapes in charcoal, and then I refine each basic shape on additional pieces of paper which I then cut out, and reposition until it "feels" believable.
